Di Natale was the shining light in Empoli's season, scoring 12 goals in 26 appearances in Serie A as the club survived a brush with relegation.
Coach Silvio Baldini has already been confirmed as a departure from Stadio Carlo Castellani and Di Natale could follow him out of the exit door.
The top-flight minnows are believed to be amenable to offloading the Italian international, providing their asking price of é¼9 million (£6.5 million) is met.
Premiership club Middlesbrough have immediately been linked with a swoop for the 25-year-old although they may baulk at forking out that figure.
Speculation in the Italian media suggests Steve McClaren wishes to reunite Di Natale with his former Empoli cohort Massimo Maccarone.
The pair enjoyed a profitable partnership in firing Empoli into Serie A but Boro will need to dispense with a striker before they can recruit fresh firepower.
The Teessiders have also been linked with a move for Sunderland's Kevin Phillips but Boro boss McClaren needs to create space in his squad before bolstering his attack.
