Middlesbrough's Ugo Ehiogu is set to be sidelined for a lengthy spell.Middlesbrough have confirmed that defender Ugo Ehiogu is set to be sidelined for a lengthy spell.
The England international limped off during Sunday's draw with Everton after just 18 minutes following a clash with his own goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.
Ehiogu was only just returning from a lengthy calf problem which had already limited him to just two league starts this season.
Now it seems Ehiogu will be struggling to play again this term, following scans on his knee.
Boro have also suffered with the news that Chris Riggott's hamstring problem will rule him out for a further two to three weeks.
The Teessiders now only have Gareth Southgate and 38-year-old Colin Cooper as fit senior central defenders.
Boro have the option of recalling Andrew Davies from his loan spell at Queens Park Rangers, but he too is struggling with a hamstring problem, while Stuart Parnaby is only just returning from a long spell on the sidelines.
The central defensive pairing of Matthew Bates and David Wheater, who helped Boro to FA Youth Cup success last season and will again be playing in the same competition this year, are likely to be added to the senior squad for the match against Norwich this weekend.
Meanwhile, Michael Reiziger's toe injury is not as bad as first feared and he has not suffered a break, but he is a major doubt for the Norwich clash.
