Middlesbrough have recalled Australian Brad Jones from his loan spell at Blackpool.Middlesbrough have recalled Australian Brad Jones from his loan spell at Blackpool.
Jones had been on a season-long deal at Bloomfield Road, but Boro are facing an injury crisis in the goalkeeping department and were left with no option but to call him back.
Number two Carlo Nash picked up a groin injury during Boro's 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa, which left Boro very short.
Nash was only playing because Mark Schwarzer was absent with a knee injury he picked up in training last month.
Schwarzer was not expected to be back until next week, but with their Uefa Cup last 16 first leg clash with Sporting Lisbon on Thursday - Boro are keen to get their first choice man back between the posts.
England Under-21 keeper Ross Turnbull, currently on loan at Barnsley, could have been another option for Boro boss Steve McClaren - but he broke his thumb last week.
Jones, who has some limited first team experience at Boro, could now be in line to play - but he too is struggling with injury as he sustained a shoulder problem whilst at Blackpool last month.
The only fully fit keeper is England youth star David Knight, but McClaren is desperate not to throw the 18-year-old in for his first team debut against Sporting on Thursday.
"We are going to assess the position with all goalkeepers when the results of tests and scans are known," revealed the Boro boss.
"I know I said on Saturday that we may have to park a bus in front of our goal, but we're hopeful it may not come to that! We think there is an improvement with a couple of the players.
"Mark could make it, but Carlo and Ross definitely won't and we'll have to see about Brad."
