Boro recall stopper

Middlesbrough have recalled Andrew Davies from his loan spell at QPR.

Middlesbrough have recalled Andrew Davies from his loan spell at Queens Park Rangers as they look to ease their defensive crisis.

Boro have endured a nightmare time with injuries of late and have been forced to recall Davies as cover for the midweek Premiership action.

Central defender Chris Riggott is doubtful for Tuesday's clash with Fulham with a knee injury, which will require surgery at the season's close, and he joins Stuart Parnaby (groin) and Mark Schwarzer (back) on the sidelines.

Boro boss Steve McClaren says that Riggott has been carrying a knee injury for a few weeks, but they were hoping to get until the end of the season before operating.

"We have had to recall Andrew Davies from QPR and we're in the process of doing that as we are still short on bodies.

"Riggott has been carrying a knee injury for the last four-five weeks and will need an operation at the end of the season, but he broke down in training.

"Unfortunately he got a knock on it and he looks very doubtful for tomorrow (Tuesday).

"We've got the likes of Colin Cooper and Ugo Ehiogu to step in, with good experience, and we'll need them."

A congested treatment room at The Riverside also houses Bolo Zenden, Joseph-Desire Job, Mark Viduka, Michael Reiziger, James Morrison, Tony McMahon, Gaizka Mendieta and Malcolm Christie - with McClaren struggling to rejuvenate the club's stalled season.

Davies goes straight into McClaren's squad for the Fulham game, while Ugo Ehiogu is available again after a long-term absence.
