Boro set for Macc talks

Middlesbrough will hold further talks with Siena over Massimo Maccarone.

Middlesbrough are still struggling to come to an agreement with Siena over another loan spell for Massimo Maccarone, and fresh talks will take place on Wednesday.

The Italian striker still does not seem to feature in Steve McClaren's plans at The Riverside, and is looking to remain in Italy where he spent last season.

Maccarone spent a difficult loan spell at Parma before a more successful move to Siena, who now want to sign him for the whole of next season.

However, the two clubs are struggling to reach a financial agreement over the loan of the 25-year-old, who arrived at Boro from Empoli for £8 million three years ago.

Maccarone's agent Paolo Fabbri says that the two parties will meet in Italy on Wednesday in a bid to finally settle on a loan deal.

"Siena want the player for another loan season, but the conditions that both clubs want are still different," said Fabbri.

"Siena have made an important offer regarding the player's salary, as they cannot pay Maccarone's whole wages, but their offer is not what Middlesbrough want.

"For such reason, both clubs will meet on Wednesday in Milan to find a solution.

"Massimo doesn't mind staying at Siena or going back to Middlesbrough. He wants to be at a club where he is guaranteed some playing time, and that is more likely at Siena."
