The Brazilian, nicknamed The Terminator, helped inspire Boro to a 2-1 success over Arsenal and McClaren was delighted with his new midfield lynchpin.
"Rochemback had the best debut I have seen from a player and he can get even better," beamed McClaren.
"He will be a crowd favourite who can get us playing.
"In the second half Rochemback took over the game and showed what he is capable of.
"He wants to run a football match and wants the ball all of the time. It doesn't matter if he is marked.
"It was a throw back to when Juninho came. He wanted the ball even with a defender right behind him. He has that same arrogance."
McClaren was also very happy with Abel Xavier and youngster Adam Johnson - both of whom made their Premiership debuts alongside Rochemback.
"The impact of the new boys was vital," continued McClaren.
"I can't thank the people behind the scenes who have worked to bring them in enough.
"It really was the last minute that we got Xavier and especially Rochemback. We needed them and they showed what they could do.
"I think that's 23 players we've used already. We've had a few injuries and we had to call on Adam Johnson, an 18-year-old boy, and for him to come in and play like that against Arsenal was wonderful.
"That's what we're all about. We will bring those young players in and let them sink or swim. Adam swam, just as others like Downing, Morrison, McMahon and Parnaby have all done. It bodes well for the future."
