Paul Scharner has claimed that Middlesbrough are interested in his services.Austria international Paul Scharner has claimed that Middlesbrough are ready to join the hunt to land his signature.
Birmingham remain favourites to seal a deal for the 25-year-old Brann defender, having already had two bids rejected by his Norwegian paymasters.
A bid in the region of £2.1 million was turned down by Brann in October but Blues chief Steve Bruce is expected to reignite his interest when the transfer window opens again in January.
However, Scharner has now revealed that Middlesbrough, thought to be in the market for a defender, are monitoring his situation - along with several other clubs across Europe.
''I know Middlesbrough and clubs in France and Germany are in the picture too,'' Scharner told Nettavisen.
''I am interested to play in France or Germany in case any clubs contact me.''
