West Brom star Jonathan Greening is not surprised by Middlesbrough's problems.West Brom star Jonathan Greening has revealed that he is not surprised by former club Middlesbrough's current problems.
Greening was influential in The Baggies' victory over Blackburn on Saturday, while Middlesbrough fell to an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa.
Boro are now firmly embroiled in a relegation battle, and Greening has heaped the pressure further on under-fire boss Steve McClaren by claiming that he has doubts about his managerial nous.
"I'm not really surprised (by Middlesbrough's defeat to Villa). A few of the boys are a bit unhappy there with the McClaren way of doing things," he explained.
"Maybe some of the signings have not worked out. He spent £8.5 million on Massimo Maccarone and he doesn't play.
"I feel sorry for the fans because they were really good to me."
Greening also declared that he had little sympathy for the club he played for until 2004, with the possibility emerging that West Brom could survive at Middlesbrough's expense.
"As long as we stay up, I don't care who goes down," he remarked.
"To be fair, McClaren was great with me. He signed me when I was not playing much football. I really enjoyed working with him
"He is a really good coach, but some coaches do not make good managers."
