Motherwell boss Mark McGhee is hoping the club's windfall from James McFadden's recent move will help them keep current starlet Ross McCormack.
McFadden joined Birmingham from Everton in a deal worth £6million and Well banked £600,000 as they were due 10 per cent of any future move after they inserted a clause in the deal which saw him join The Toffees in 2003.
Now McGhee is hoping they can convince McCormack, a target for Middlesbrough, to sign a new deal, with his current contract set to expire in the summer.
"Ross has told me he wants to stay," said McGhee.
"As well as the possibility of some money coming from the McFadden deal we already have some money to spend on incoming players and I have recommended that we spend some of that on keeping some of our better players, including Ross."
