Boro full-back seals loan move

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the capture of Middlesbrough full-back Tony McMahon on a month's loan. Owls chief Brian Laws confirmed to skysports.com that he was looking to bring in a Premier League full-back and it has emerged that McMahon was his top target. The 22-year-old was expected to push for a first-team place at Boro following Luke Young's departure from the Riverside, but with Justin Hoyte coming in manager Gareth Southgate has allowed him to leave to gain further experience. "Tony is a player that ticks all the right boxes. He's played in Middlesbrough's first team and is very highly valued by Gareth Southgate," said Laws. "Tony has played in Europe, he's got a great CV and I'm delighted to bring him to Sheffield Wednesday." McMahon, who signed a new one-year deal at Boro in the summer, spent time in the Championship last season with Blackpool.
