Boro defender to have double hernia repair

Middlesbrough have announced that Andrew Taylor will have an operation on Tuesday to perform a double hernia repair. The left-back has been hampered by injuries all season, making just four appearances in total. He had a lengthy absence after damaging ankle ligaments during the home victory over Ipswich in September. Taylor did regain fitness and played for the reserves but he has continued to struggle and new manager Gordon Strachan has not been able to call on him at all. Strachan has several other injury concerns ahead of Saturday's Championship game against Swansea. Adam Johnson suffered tightness in his hamstring in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester City and will be sent for late tests. Jeremie Aliadiere is also being assessed after a long lay-off following ankle surgery.
