Doncaster are closing in on the signing of Sunderland defender Matt Kilgallon, skysports.com understands.
Kilgallon is currently on loan at Middlesbrough from Sunderland, but the centre-half has failed to make an impact at the Riverside.
Rovers are now ready to offer him a chance to move to the Keepmoat Stadium in search of regular first-team football after making only three appearances for Middlesbrough.
Sean O'Driscoll's side are hoping a deal can be reached to see Kilgallon end his loan spell at Boro early so that he can make the move to South Yorkshire.
Sunderland are believed to be willing to loan out Kilgallon as he is well down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light and he is expected to link up with Doncaster until the end of the season.
