Ollie - We committed suicide

Pool boss admits display was 'nowhere near good enough'

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway felt his side threw away three points as Everton fought back to claim a sensational 5-3 win at Goodison Park. The Seasiders had come from 2-1 down just after the break to lead 3-2 with just over an hour gone. Alex Baptiste had scored Blackpool's first equaliser and goals from Jason Puncheon and captain Charlie Adam briefly had the Seasiders in front. However, Louis Saha helped the Toffees stage a stunning comeback in a frenetic finish at Goodison Park much to the dismay of Holloway.

Suicide

He told Sky Sports: "We committed suicide. Some of our defending I'm quite embarrassed about and we need to go back and sort it out. "We got ourselves in front and then to give somebody (Jermaine Beckford) a free flick from a corner just a couple of yards out and with nobody marking him (Louis Saha) from the start of the set piece to the end of the set piece. "Yes, we did have Charlie Adam off the field from being kicked in the face, so you know why the game has to play on I don't know - that's the rules I suppose. "That's three weeks in a row now but the lads have to stop feeling sorry for themselves."
Stunned
Holloway admitted that having to make two defensive substitutions just before Everton restored parity to make it 3-3 'killed' his side's chances of claiming victory. "With nine people back behind the ball, getting pressed on the ball and having to deal with things that Beckford could get in like that," he added. "Obviously set pieces are different but he should never get in like that and it stunned us. "I think the equaliser affected us and knocked the stuffing out of us. We have to get ourselves off the floor and keep going. "That's not good enough and we know that. We've let so many late goals in - I think that's 16 goals in five games now which is nowhere near good enough."
