Tony Mowbray lines up former central defender

Jonathan Woodgate is in talks to return to his hometown club Middlesbrough, Sky Sports understands. The 32-year-old previously joined Boro in 2006 from Real Madrid, initially on-loan and then in a £7million deal. He shone during his 18-month stay before being sold to Tottenham Hotspur in January 2008. The former Leeds United man spent last season with Stoke City after leaving Spurs, and he played 17 league games for Tony Pulis' men. Now Sky Sports understands that Woodgate is ready to return to his native North East and re-join Boro. It is understood he is set to hold talks with manager Tony Mowbray on Friday with a view to penning a long-term deal.
