Norwich City have agreed a fee with Barnsley for the transfer of Jacob Butterfield, avoiding the prospect of a tribunal.
The 22-year-old is out of contract at Oakwell, but the Tykes are entitled to a fee after nurturing him through their academy ranks.
As Butterfield is under the age of 24 and had been offered fresh terms, Norwich will be forced to pay compensation.
Had the two clubs been unable to reach an agreement regarding a fee, the matter would have been settled at a tribunal.
Compromise
Barnsley did reject Norwich's initial bid, with a furious Keith Hill accusing the Premier League outfit of attempting to get their man on the cheap.
A compromise has now been reached, though, with the Tykes announcing that Butterfield is clear to make his way to Carrow Road.
"Barnsley Football Club have reached an agreement with Norwich City for the transfer fee of Jacob Butterfield," read a statement released on the club's official website.
"The club are now happy to have accepted a vastly improved offer from Norwich, subsequently avoiding a tribunal as the midfielder is under the age of 24."
