Fryatt, a proven goalscorer at Championship level, has scored 25 goals in 67 league starts for Hull since signing from Leicester for £1.2million in January 2011 and is entering the final year of his contract at the KC Stadium.
The 27-year-old marksman is behind new signings Yannick Sagbo and Danny Graham in the pecking order at the Tigers and Steve Bruce may be willing to sell Fryatt in a permanent deal in order to generate deadline-day funds to bring in a new striker.
Fryatt was not included in the Hull matchday squad for Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City after starting in the midweek Capital One Cup win over Leyton Orient.
Nottingham Forest are another club who are admirers of Fryatt and made enquiries to Hull last week but it is Middlesbrough who appear to be leading the chase for his signature.
