Jurgen Klinsmann celebrated in style as he scored on his debut for Tottenham against Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the 1994/95 season

Tottenham had been linked with several big name signings but nobody expected them to pull off a deal of this magnitude.

Jurgen Klinsmann was far from a star on the wane, he arrived just off the back of an impressive 1994 World Cup.

His iconic diving celebration on his debut against Sheffield Wednesday immediately set the tone and he soon became a club legend.

The German ended up having two spells at White Hart Lane and he cemented his iconic status in 1997 when he hauled Spurs away from relegation.

Vote: Gareth Bale turns into a world class player at Tottenham

Younes Kaboul completed a remarkable second-half comeback by Tottenham as they beat Arsenal 3-2 at the Emirates in the 2010/11 season.

Gareth Bale did not have the easiest of starts to life in the Premier League. He seemed to be Tottenham’s unlucky curse as he failed to win a match in his first 24 league appearances for the club and was linked with a transfer to Birmingham.

Things soon began to change when he secured his first win as a Spurs player in a 5-0 success over Burnley. Bale’s confidence grew, his pace and superb left-footed strikes changed matches in an instant and he arguably became one of the Premier League's best-value signings.

The Wales international could spark revivals when all seemed to be lost, as he did in the north London derby in November 2010 at The Emirates.

Vote: Fabrizio Ravanelli dazzles for Middlesbrough

Fabrizio Ravanelli marked his Middlesbrough debut with a hat-trick against Liverpool on the opening day of the 1996/97 Premier League season

Fabrizio Ravanelli was box office from the moment he arrived at Middlesbrough in 1996. Known as the White Feather for obvious reasons, his excellent movement and eye for goal made him unmissable viewing.

He arrived a Champions League winner and Italy international and did not fail to live up to his pedigree during his time playing under Bryan Robson in the Premier League.

Ravanelli made a grand entrance on his debut against Liverpool, scoring a hat-trick at the Riverside, and his goals were a bright spot for the club in their relegation campaign in 1996/97.

Vote: Eric Cantona brings a winning attitude to Manchester United

Eric Cantona scored a sublime chip for Manchester Utd against Sunderland in the 1996/97 season

Eric Cantona was arguably Manchester United's first truly great overseas outfield player and many would argue Manchester United’s Premier League glory years were founded upon his signing from champions Leeds in November 1992.

The Frenchman guided Sir Alex Ferguson’s side to their first ever Premier League title and his creativity consistently unlocked defences.

Cantona had goalscoring prowess too and a haul of trophies inevitably followed. He scored 64 goals in 143 appearances and won the title four times and the PFA Player of the Year Award before his departure in 1997.

Vote: Thierry Henry revolutionises centre-forward play at Arsenal

In the 2005/06 season Thierry Henry scored his 150th Barclays Premier League goal for Arsenal against Middlesbrough to equal Cliff Bastin's record

Arsene Wenger transformed Thierry Henry from a winger to an out-and-out striker at Arsenal after he signed for a club record transfer fee of around £11million in 1999.

It's fair to say that it proved a good decision. The Frenchman scored a club record 175 league goals, won two Premier League titles and claimed the PFA Player of the Year Award twice.

No wonder they put up a statue of him outside the Emirates Stadium...
