Ongoing talks with Ulsan Hyundai to sign Lee Chun-soo have yet to result in a move to St Mary's and the Premiership side could turn to another one of Guus Hiddink's World Cup soldiers.
Song, who plays for K-League outfit Pusan Icons, had an impressive World Cup and may have just caught the eye of Saints' manager Gordon Strachan.
He is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Asia, where some are already comparing him to South Korea's living legend Hong Myung-bo.
Equally comfortable playing in defence or in midfield, the 23-year-old's versatility might just be what Strachan needs for his squad.
His God-like status in South Korea could also be of benefit to Southampton, where the club can expect to make a lot of profit from merchandise sales in the Far East.
However, it might just be this reason that Pusan might not be too enthusiastic about letting their star player go.
