Edwin injury hands chance to Taylor

MAIK TAYLOR did his chances of an extended run in the Fulham team no harm, with number one Edwin van der Sar sidelined through injury.

Van der Sar missed the Boxing Day trip to West Ham, after it emerged he broke a bone in his foot against Newcastle on Saturday.

Fulham fear their imposing Dutch international will be out of action for six weeks, giving Northern Ireland shot-stopper Taylor the chance to impress.

Taylor was only beaten by a penalty at West Ham, and Cottagers assistant manager Christian Damiano felt the keeper deserved praise.

He said: "The draw was the minimum for us today as we pushed and tried to take risks. It was a good game and Maik Taylor played very well."

Taylor is a worthy understudy, but Fulham are sure to miss the presence of former Juventus keeper van der Sar.
