The West London club survived a brush with relegation during the 2002/03 campaign as Chris Coleman also replaced Jean Tigana as manager in the closing weeks.
Coleman has yet to significantly strengthen his squad during the summer and Fulham are among the favourites for the drop this season.
But Portuguese winger Boa Morte is heading into the new campaign brimming with optimism that Fulham can return to the higher echelons of The Premiership.
"The English championship is always a big unknown," Boa Morte told O Jogo.
"Manchester United and Arsenal are the main favourites but there are other teams that can surprise.
"Fulham are going to fight for a place in the top ten of the table and, to obtain that, we will have to be a consistent and regular team."
