Hudson linked up with The Latics towards the end of August and still has over a week remaining on his initial deal at Boundary Park.
However, following an injury to Will Haining, Latics chief Dowie is determined to keep Hudson in his ranks for at least another month.
Dowie has held talks with his Fulham counterpart Chris Coleman regarding an extension to the 20-year-old's stay in the North West.
"I think Chris Coleman has agreed to let me keep Mark Hudson for another month which I'm very thankful for," said Dowie.
"He's done terrific. I think he's enjoying it here and he'll make a difference to us."
If Dowie does receive permission from Fulham, he will also require the green light from the club's administrators to prolong Hudson's loan spell.
