The Fulham defender joined The Blades in September on an initial one-month deal, but United boss Neil Warnock was keen to extend it with his squad being hit by a number of injuries.
"With our current injury situation, we have to strengthen and the directors are working hard to help me in the quest for new players," Warnock told the club's official website.
"But it isn't straight forward to bring in better players on a month's loan but we have been fortunate with Jon and I'm pleased that Fulham have allowed us to have him for two more months.
"We are all glad that he is on board and I'm sure he will feel the benefit of having a few games under his belt, as have Paul Peschisolido, Ashley Ward and Michael Brown."
The new deal will keep Harley at the Division One promotion hopefuls until mid-December.
