Eredivisie round-up

Feyenoord were thumped 4-1 at AZ Alkmaar, while Ajax beat NEC 1-0.

Feyenoord missed the chance to reclaim top spot in De Eredivisie after a 4-1 thumping at AZ Alkmaar.

The hosts got off to a dream start with Joris Mathijsen firing them in front after just four minutes.

Feyenoord were handed a way back into the game three minutes before the break when Jan Kromkamp put through his own net.

AZ hit back and restored their lead on 62 minutes - courtesy of Danish international Kenneth Perez.

The Scandinavian striker grabbed his second on 77 minutes to put AZ in total control and they were handed a further boost seconds later when Feyenoord's Pascal Bosschaart was sent off for serious foul play.

Feyenoord were then reduced to nine men when South Korean international Song Chong-gug was dismissed four minutes from time for violent conduct.

Things got even worse for Ruud Gullit's men when Robin Nelisse completed the rout with the fourth two minutes from the end.

Ajax talisman Rafael van der Vaart struck on 24 minutes to hand the Amsterdammers a much-needed 1-0 win over NEC Nijmegen.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar struck twice in Heerenveen's 4-2 win at Den Bosch.

Den Bosch had led twice in the game through Koen van de Laak and Dennis Schulp, but Heerenveen are full of confidence at the moment and late goals by Yuri Rose and Georgios Samaras handed them the win.

Ron Jans got the performance he demanded from his Groningen players as they ran out 4-3 winners over ADO Den Haag.

Jans cancelled a training session during the week and held a crisis meeting to settle a number of issues and it would appear to have worked as they fought hard for the win.

ADO led through Geert den Ouden, but they were overwhelmed by a four-goal salvo from Glen Salmon (2), Stefano Seedorf and Kurt Elshot.

Groningen had to withstand a late rally from ADO who netted goals from Cedric van der Gun and Sjaak Polak.
