Auxerre have confirmed their interest in Fulham outcast Steve Marlet.Auxerre have confirmed their interest in Fulham outcast Steve Marlet.
The France international is biding his time until leaving Craven Cottage after being informed he does not figure in Chris Coleman's plans.
Marlet spent the past two seasons on loan at Marseille and is likely to return to France on a permanent basis.
The 31-year-old has already rejected a move to Le Mans as he looks to clinch a contract with a club who can offer European football.
Auxerre fulfil that criteria and the Ligue 1 side have conceded that Marlet is one of their two targets for a new striker.
Feyenoord's Romeo Castelen is the other name on coach Jacques Santini's shopping list but Marlet is the more likely signing.
Marlet has worked with Santini in the past and Auxerre have acknowledged that the ex-Lyon ace is being considered.
"In a week we could have hired a forward," said Auxerre chairman Jean-Claude Hamel.
"We are following two boys.
"Indeed, Marlet is one of the two possibilities but I can assert to you there is nothing concrete."
