Luis Boa Morte has pledged his future to Fulham by signing a new deal.Luis Boa Morte has pledged his future to Fulham by signing a new deal with the club.
Fulham boss Chris Coleman fought tooth and nail to retain the services of the Portuguese striker over the summer, as he resisted a string of offers from Newcastle to keep Boa Morte at Craven Cottage.
Coleman rewarded Boa Morte for his commitment by handing him the captain's armband and he has now gone a step further by improving his contract with the club.
Boa Morte struck the deal before heading out on international duty with Portugal and is now tied to Fulham until the summer of 2010.
"Boa signed the new contract just before he went away for the international break," said Coleman. "Boa has been here five years already and he wanted to sign for five more years."
Despite Boa Morte now being tied to the club for the next five years, Coleman did not rule out a move for the striker if a decent offer was tabled.
"There's no get-out clause in his contract," added Coleman. "If someone comes in and offers ridiculous money for him then sure, every player has his price.
"But there's nothing in the contract which allows him to leave if we get a big offer.
"We're not in the habit of selling our best players and we wanted to plan for the future.
"He's a big part of that. He can be the captain for the next five years if he shows the same consistency and level of performance he has done already."
