Don on trial at Fulham

Aberdeen utility man Kevin McNaughton is to undergo a trial at Fulham.

Aberdeen utility man Kevin McNaughton is to undergo a trial at Fulham which will begin on Sunday.

The Scotland international has rejected a new contract at Pittodrie and is all set to seek pastures new in the summer.

Fulham boss Chris Coleman will assess McNaughton's capabilities over three days before deciding whether to lodge a bid.

"Kevin will go to Fulham on Sunday evening and return on Thursday morning so they can take a closer look at him,'' confirmed Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood.

"Willie Miller (Aberdeen director of football) and I have been in the game long enough to realise we can't stand in the way of an opportunity like this.

"But Fulham know, if they want to take him directly from us, then it will cost them.

"Kevin will go to London until Thursday and the situation will become clearer when he returns."

Also seemingly on his way out of Aberdeen is Ryan Esson, who has also turned down a contract extension.

"I am very disappointed that Ryan has rejected our contract offer but that is his right and, to his credit, it is nothing to do with finance,'' continued Calderwood.

Meanwhile, former Fulham trialist Jose Fonte has moved to Pacos de Ferriera on loan until the end of the season from Benfica after a deal failed to materialise at Craven Cottage.
