Fulham in talks for Orient ace

Fulham have opened talks with Leyton Orient for young defender Gabriel Zakuani.

Fulham have opened talks with Leyton Orient for young defender Gabriel Zakuani.

Zakuani has been a long-term target for Fulham after impressing against them in last season's FA Cup meeting between the two sides.

The Democratic Republic of Congo international enjoyed a fine campaign with Leyton Orient last term helping them win promotion to League One and Fulham chief Chris Coleman has been keeping tabs on him.

Coleman is keen to bolster his defence for next season and is hopeful of agreeing a deal to bring Zakuani to Craven Cottage.

The player's agent Richard Cody confirmed both clubs were in talks over a possible transfer.

"The only comment I can make at this moment is that both clubs are talking," said Cody.

Orient are resigned to losing the 20-year-old as they know they cannot reject any substantial offer for the central defender.
