Leyton Orient have announced that Fulham are 'on the verge' of signing Gabriel Zakuani.
League One side Leyton Orient have announced that Fulham are 'on the verge' of signing their highly-rated defender Gabriel Zakuani.
Chris Coleman has been trying to broker a deal for the 20-year-old for some time after Zakuani caught the attention during an FA Cup meeting between the two sides in January.
Orient had been desperate to retain the services of the Democratic Republic of Congo international after he starred during their promotion campaign last season, but Fulham's persistence now appears to have paid off.
The League One side have revealed that The Cottagers are close to matching their valuation of Zakuani, and that following further discussions a deal is likely to be reached on Monday.
Although no concrete details of the potential transfer fee have been released, Orient have conceded that any deal will eclipse the club record £600,000 sale of John Chiedozie to Notts County in 1981.
After releasing Alain Goma, Coleman has been casting around for defensive reinforcements, and the Welsh boss now looks to be on the brink of making Zakuani the club's second summer signing after Jimmy Bullard.
