Montella hints at stay

Vincenzo Montella has opened the door for Fulham to thrash out a permanent deal.

Vincenzo Montella has opened the door for Fulham to thrash out a permanent deal with Roma for his services this summer.

The striker arrived at Craven Cottage on a six-month loan deal in January, but it was made clear upon his arrival that there was no chance of the stint being made permanent.

However, he has made a real impression since making his debut against Leicester and has hinted he could be prepared to remain in London.

"You don't know what the future holds," Montella told the Daily Star.

"I have a contract with Roma and left on good terms but I am enjoying myself here.

"I am really happy."

Fulham keeper Antti Niemi has vowed to fight for the number one jersey at Craven Cottage.

It is being claimed that Cottagers chief Chris Coleman has set his sights on a new keeper, but Niemi is not prepared to accept a spot on the bench.

"I understand the club are looking for a new keeper but I intend to keep my hands on the jersey," said Niemi.
