Montella: It's good to be back

Vincenzo Montella has admitted his excitement at rejoining Sampdoria

Vincenzo Montella has admitted his excitement at returning to Sampdoria.

The striker, who had a previous spell with the Serie A side from 1996-99, has gone back to the club after eight years away with Roma and he is delighted to have returned.

"I am very excited today," Montella said.

"I want to thank my old club, but now I am thinking only about Sampdoria, which in my opinion can compete for UEFA Cup qualification."

Montella, who ended last season on a four-month loan at Fulham, scored 87 goals in 149 starts for Roma and the forward has also scored three goals in 20 Italian caps.
