Defender nears return after eight months out

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has been handed a boost via the news that defender Philippe Christanval has returned to training. Christanval has been struggling with a sequence of injuries and has not featured for Fulham since the 3-1 defeat to Middlesbrough last May. But light now appears to be at the end of the tunnel for the 29-year-old - who joined the West London club in 2005 on a free transfer. Christanval has spoken of his delight at returning to training, but believes it will be too soon for him to return in Saturday's game against Arsenal. "I still need to work a lot on the pitch but it's good to be back," he told the club's official website. "I think it (Arsenal) might be too early because I need to play with the reserves first."
