Sheffield United missed the chance to move above West Brom into second place in the First Division as they were held to a draw by promotion rivals Wigan in front of a packed house at Bramall Lane.
Jack Lester fired Neil Warnock's side into a 23rd minute lead, but Nathan Ellington secured a point for Wigan with an equaliser within 60 seconds of the restart.
Wigan enjoyed the better start to the game and skipper Jason de Vos tested fit-again Blades keeper Paddy Kenny with two early headers.
Lester and Nick Montgomery then missed the target as United forced their way back into the game, before Lester put them ahead, drilling home a shot from close range after being found in space by Ashley Ward.
However, Wigan levelled straight from the kick off as Neil Roberts was given time down the right and his cross was swept home by Ellington from 15 yards.
Peter Ndlovu was inches off target with a shot from 20 yards and Robert Page headed just the wrong side of a post as the home side threatened to restore their lead before the interval, but there was little to warm the 26,000 crowd in the second half.
John Filan had to scramble to turn away Lester's shot just after the restart and the United goalscorer then headed wide from Michael Tonge's free-kick, before the game petered out into a draw.
