Wigan got back to winning ways with a solid 2-0 win at Sheffield United.Wigan got back to winning ways with a solid 2-0 win at Sheffield United.
Lee McCulloch and Nathan Ellington grabbed the goals for Paul Jewell's side who put a run of three consecutive defeats behind them.
The Latics began brightly and moved ahead after just seven minutes courtesy of McCulloch's 50th league goal.
The forward met Jimmy Bullard's corner first-time and directed a first-time shot past Ian Bennett.
The visitors almost doubled their advantage when full back Leighton Baines nearly added another spectacular strike to his recent rocket against Ipswich, but saw a 20-yard drive hit the woodwork.
Danny Cadamarteri saw a long-range effort palmed away by John Filan on 35 minutes, and from the rebound Andy Liddell blazed over.
Bennett did well to keep out a close-range effort from Jason Roberts shortly after the interval, but could do nothing to prevent strike partner Ellington 18 minutes from time.
'The Duke' powered home a header from substitute Michael Flynn's corner to put Wigan out of sight.
The triumph moves Jewell's men back up into second spot and to within two points of leaders Ipswich.
