Paul Jewell has scotched any plans West Ham may have of signing Jason Roberts.Paul Jewell has scotched any plans West Ham United may have of trying to tempt Wigan Athletic striker Jason Roberts to Upton Park.
The Hammers have been linked with a swoop for Roberts as a possible replacement for Marlon Harewood, who has been interesting Norwich City.
But Wigan boss Jewell has poured cold water on any prospect of Roberts leaving The JJB Stadium for the capital.
Jewell did concede, though, that a £3 million offer for Roberts' strike partner Nathan Ellington would have to be considered.
"I don't envisage that happening because Nathan is not ready for The Premiership yet," said Jewell.
"But if another top-level club have their eye on him, we can't do anything about it.
"There is no way that I will sell Jason, though, despite apparent interest from West Ham."
Meanwhile, Jewell has offered a new contract to Matt Jackson, with the Latics chief expecting the experienced defender to sign.
He added to the club's official website: "I'm pleased to say that we have offered Matt Jackson a one-year extension to his contract and that he looks like he is going to sign."
Jewell also confirmed that Stig Tofting is training with the Championship club but acknowledged he would not be signing the veteran Danish midfielder.
"The other bit of news we have is that Stig Tofting is training with us but he is not here with a view to us signing him," continued Jewell.
"He's obviously still a good player and will do a fine job for someone but we are not looking at him in terms of signing him on.
"He's a good friend of Per Frandsen's and Per asked if he could come and train with us and I'm happy to help him out."
