Paul Jewell has denied making a move to sign West Brom striker Robert Earnshaw.Wigan Athletic manager Paul Jewell has denied making any approach for West Bromwich Albion striker Robert Earnshaw.
Reports have suggested that The Latics want to take Earnshaw to The JJB Stadium in exchange for Nathan Ellington.
Current Wigan striker Ellington has just 12 months remaining on his contract and that has sparked talk of a swap deal with Earnshaw.
But Jewell has refuted rumours that he instigated any move for Earnshaw and remains confident Ellington will sign a new deal with The Latics.
"It's been reported that I approached Bryan Robson with a view to swapping Nathan with Earnshaw," Jewell told the club's official website.
"I can categorically state that these stories are untrue.
"More talks are planned this week with Nathan and his representatives about the possibility of him signing a new, long-term contract but, even if it doesn't happen, he's still got another year to run on his current deal and he's an important part of my plans for this year."
Jewell added to his strike-force on Saturday by wrapping up a deal for Wolves forward Henri Camara and he confirmed he has two more signings lined up.
He added: "We want to bring two more players in next week on top of the Camara signing and we've already agreed terms with one of those.
"I'm not prepared to say who that player is at this stage. The other one is also looking positive."
