Wigan striker David Connolly is desperate to play for Republic of Ireland again.Wigan striker David Connolly is desperate to earn an recall to the Republic of Ireland squad.
Connolly marked his Latics debut with a fine goal in their 2-0 victory at West Brom on Saturday, taking his tally for the season to five.
Brian Kerr's Irish squad are now struggling to qualify for the World Cup after defeat against France, and they must go to Cyprus without Clinton Morrison in their next game.
Robbie Keane has been struggling to get a game at Spurs and Connolly is hoping to return to the Irish set-up after a two-year absence.
"I don't know why I've not played for two years," said Connolly.
"The players are there, and I did pull out of one squad with an injury. I don't think the manager was too happy with that, and since then I've not been in.
"That could be because I was playing at a lower level, plus we've good players, so the call hasn't come. But I will just carry on doing my best.
"I've not spoken to the manager for a while now, but I watched Wednesday's game against France [a 1-0 defeat] in a pub, and I was willing them on.
"It would be nice if I got a call, although I won't be expecting it.
"We will wait and see, but whether I get back in or not, I hope we qualify."
