Lens goalkeeper Charles Itandje is making a late push for France's World Cup squad.
Lens goalkeeper Charles Itandje has set his sights on making a late push for France's World Cup squad.
Itandje has been called up by Raymond Domenech for a training get-together next month.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a fine season with Lens and he is planning to challenge Gregory Coupet, Fabien Barthez and Mickael Landreau for a place in Domenech's final squad.
"The France team was one of my objectives this season," said Itandje.
"I am flattered the national coach thought about me but the most difficult time is to come.
"If one of the three other goalkeepers decides not to go, or can't, I would be delighted.
"The competition is still open between Landreau and me, anyway I really hope so.
"First I have to show all my talent and steadiness in my club. Then, everything can happen."
Another player hoping to win a place in France's squad for the World Cup is Wigan's Pascal Chimbonda.
Chimbonda is hoping his inclusion in The Professional Footballers Association's team of the season will increase his chances of winning a place in Domenech's plans."I believe I have a chance to go to the World Cup, and I am desperate for it to happen," Chimbonda told L'Equipe.
"If I was voted the best defender (in the Premiership) it shows that I play at the right level.
"The national coach has said that the door remains open for new players, so why not me?"
