New Wigan Athletic striker Svetoslav Todorov is out of Bulgaria's Euro 2008 qualifier against Romania with a leg injury.
Todorov, who signed for Wigan on a season-long loan from Portsmouth just before the transfer deadline, has been struggling with the complaint this season.
Though he appeared in all three of Pompey's Premiership games, scoring twice, he will be unable to feature for his country on Saturday.
He will also miss next week's clash with Slovenia and Todorov feels it will be more prudent not to gamble with his fitness.
"The doctors have told me it's better not to take any risk," said Todorov.
"I feel really sorry because I won't be able to help my team-mates for these important matches."
Bulgaria's team doctor confirmed that Todorov's injury had been aggravated by playing Premiership football with Portsmouth.
He said: "Todorov's leg is not in good condition.
"He has played in the last three Portsmouth matches with a slight injury and it became worse during the last couple of days."
Following Todorov's withdrawal from the squad, Bulgaria coach Hristo Stoichkov has added Levski Sofia defender Zhivko Milanov to his party.
