Jewell quiet on Duke bid

Paul Jewell has refused to confirm whether he has made a bid for Nathan Ellington.

Paul Jewell has bid for new players, but refused to confirm whether he had offered Nathan Ellington the chance to return to Wigan Athletic.

Reports have strongly suggested Wigan have made a bid to bring Ellington back to the club 18 months after he left for West Bromwich Albion.

A fee of £3million, the figure The Latics received from West Brom, has been mooted to secure the striker's signature.

But while Jewell outlined which areas he wants to strengthen in the transfer window, he was unwilling to comment on the Ellington speculation.

"We've made bids for lots of players," Jewell told Sky Sports News.

"I don't really want to comment on something that should be private.

"We are after a striker, we are after a midfield player and a couple of defenders.

"We are in the market for a number of players."

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray has stated his intention to keep Ellington, but the forward's agent has told skysports.com that talks have taken place between the two clubs.
