Wright move for Town

David Wright has followed Mike Pollitt out of the Wigan Athletic door after signing for Ipswich.

Pollitt joined Burnley on a month's loan on Thursday, but defender Wright's switch to Portman Road is a permanent arrangement.

Wright has signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Ipswich and Latics chief Paul Jewell feels it is a sensible move for both player and club.

"He's out of contract in the summer and could leave on a free in the summer, so it makes sense to recoup at this stage," Jewell told the club's website. "Wrighty is a terrific pro who has worked really hard to get his chance with us after a long period on the sidelines.

"He's never moaned and has always tried his best for me, which as a manager is all you can ask for. Ironically, he's had his longest spell in the team for a while in recent weeks, and had done well, proving to himself that he can perform at the highest level.

"However, I owe it to him to give him the chance of permanent first team football, which hopefully he will get at Ipswich.

"Naturally, he goes with the best wishes of everyone at Wigan Athletic."
