Chris Kirkland has become the latest England casualty after withdrawing from the squad to face Spain due to a shoulder injury.
The Wigan Athletic goalkeeper has pulled out of the squad for Wednesday's friendly at Old Trafford as a precaution.
His club manager Paul Jewell confirmed the decision, but hopes Kirkland will be fit for Wigan's game with Arsenal at the weekend.
"Chris should be fine for Arsenal at the weekend," Jewell told the club's official website.
"But he's been such an important figure for us this season that we're not in a position where we can take any risks."
Kirkland's absence leaves Steve McClaren with Paul Robinson and Ben Foster as his goalkeeping options for the test against Spain.
Wayne Bridge, Andy Johnson, Jermaine Jenas and Owen Hargreaves are also unavailable for the midweek encounter.
