Rangers stalk Osasuna ace

Carlos Cuellar's agent has revealed Rangers remain locked in talks for the defender.

The agent of Rangers target Carlos Cuellar has revealed the Scottish Premier League club remain locked in talks with Osasuna over a move for the defender.

Pedro Bravo revealed the two clubs are still negotiating the fee for the 25-year-old, who has a £4million buy-out clause in his contract.

Rangers boss Walter Smith is looking closer to the £2.5million marker, but having lost out on Julien Faubert to West Ham, he may be willing to up the ante.

Bravo remains confident a deal will be reached for Cuellar, but admits it is difficult to predict how soon a resolution will arrive.

"Rangers and Osasuna are still negotiating the player's transfer," revealed the agent.

"They have not reached an agreement yet. We hope that it will be soon but it's difficult to know.

"The player remains cautious as he respects both clubs but it's clear that he is interested in going to Glasgow otherwise we wouldn't be negotiating."

Rangers are also still in the hunt for Kilmarnock's Steven Naismith, but an agreement over the asking price is once again proving to be a stumbling block.

Meawhile, Wigan attacker Lee McCullough's proposed move to Ibrox is still expected to go through in the near future after weekend reports that he was on the verge of leaving the JJB Stadium.
