Wigan boss Chris Hutchings was happy with his side's point at Upton Park as they now lie third in the Premiership table.
Athletic rode their luck a little in the 1-1 draw with West Ham who squandered chances and were stunned by Paul Scharner's opener.
And after cynics said he would not last long at the club, Paul Jewell's ex-number two is enjoying Wigan's league standing after consecutive wins over Middlesbrough and Sunderland.
He said: "It didn't bother me in the slightest what people said."I've got great faith in the players that we've brought in and a belief in my ability as a manager."
Seven pointsWigan recorded their third undefeated result on the bounce after a stunning overhead kick from Scharner gave them the lead against the Hammers. But a Lee Bowyer equaliser meant the two sides picked up a point.
Hutchings added: "We have done OK so far but we won't get carried away. We've got seven points but we just have to keep it going."
When asked about their campaign being all about survival, Wigan's boss simply replied: "No, we are better than that, the players we have brought in are better than that. And the chairman and I are ambitious.
"We want another season like Wigan's first season in the Premier."
