Steve Bruce lauded the performance of Chris Kirkland after Wigan Athletic held title-chasing Chelsea to a 1-1 draw.
Emile Heskey's injury-time goal earned the Latics a point at Stamford Bridge after Michael Essien had struck early in the second half for the hosts.
Chelsea had chances to score in both halves, but were denied on several occasions by the imposing figure of Wigan keeper Kirkland.
Latics boss Bruce acknowledged there were times when his team were in danger of a heavy defeat, but he praised Kirkland's display.
"This is a great result because for a spell Chelsea looked like they might blow us away," said Bruce.
"But we stuck at it and Chris has made some brilliant saves and we got our reward in the end.
"He is an outstanding goalkeeper and if he stays fit there are not many much better than him."
Wigan now have 35 points and Bruce is optimistic that will be enough to secure the club's Premier League status for another season.
He added: "We have now got 35 points and that has usually been enough over the last five years.
"It is a wonderful achievement and we are looking like a decent team at the minute."
