The winger has struggled to make an impact at Villa since Paul Lambert became manager in 2012 and he started just four games in the Premier League last season.
Injuries have hampered the 24-year-old's progress and he has been restricted to just one appearance for Villa this season in the Capital One Cup against Tottenham.
He joined Wigan on an initial month-long loan at the end of October following an injury to Scotland international Shaun Maloney.
Albrighton has made four appearances for the Championship club and he is keen to stay at the DW Stadium beyond this week.
"I've thoroughly enjoyed it," Albrighton said in the Wigan Evening Post. "I know that the clubs will probably talk on whether they're going to extend the loan, I'd happily renew the contract and get a few more games here, definitely.
"As it stands I'll be in training for a couple of days here and then go back. I'd definitely like to stay though.
"The lads have been brilliant and they've got a plan here and the plan is to get straight back into the Premier League, and I just want to play as many games for the club as I can and help them do that."
