Blustery conditions made neat football difficult and it looked as if a replay would be required, but Kabba capitalised on a scramble in the box to volley past Paul Robinson with 13 minutes remaining.
Leeds settled slightly the quicker and a neat move set Alan Smith free, but his shot lacked power and he failed test Paddy Kenny.
Harry Kewell, who went off injured at the break, had a golden opportunity on the half-hour when racing through on goal. The Australian went clear but dallied and Kenny made a good save.
The opening was still there, as the ball looped up in the air but Kewell took a wild swing with his right foot and fired high over the bar.
The Blades lifted their fans moments after the break when Kabba`s powerful drive forced Robinson to tip the effort over the bar.
Mark Viduka was Leeds` focal point after the break, and he was twice thwarted by Kenny.
Seth Johnson`s low shot stung the palms of Kenny as Leeds forced the home side onto the back foot, but The Blades batted back to snatch a sensational win.
Shaun Murphy`s header caused panic in the area and after Danny Mills had cleared Michael Tonge`s shot off the line, the ball fell to Kabba and he showed great composure to volley into the corner.
Leeds attempted to carve out a leveller, but missed the inventiveness of Kewell as they were thwarted by a Sheffield rearguard action.
