The Foxes have ensured their sojourn in Division One is as brief as possible with goals from Muzzy Izzet and Jordan Stewart sealing their return to the English elite.
Turkish international Izzet opened the scoring on ten minutes when he stooped low to head home Paul Dickov's cross and the midfielder turned provider on the stroke of half-time as his corner was powerfully headed in by Stewart.
Sheffield United have wobbled slightly in recent weeks with their cup exploits possibly taking their toll as they slipped to defeat at Preston.
Dickson Etuhu grabbed the opening goal as he headed in Graham Alexander's corner on 61 minutes and Eddie Lewis wrapped up the points on 87 minutes.
Wolves put further daylight between themselves and seventh-placed Ipswich in the quest for a play-off berth.
Dave Jones' troops collected an ultimately convincing victory at home to Millwall with Shaun Newton pouncing on a rebound after five minutes after Colin Cameron's shot was cleared off the line.
Cameron settled the nerves with the second on 78 minutes when he coolly finished after latching onto Denis Irwin's long ball before Newton made it three within 60 seconds when squeezing the ball home from a tight angle.
Norwich City's hopes of sneaking into the play-off picture for the second successive season took a knock as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Walsall.
Stoke City boosted their survival aspirations with a gritty triumph at home to an infuriating Wimbledon team.
The hosts took the lead through Brynjar Gunnarsson's flicked header on 29 minutes and Ade Akinbiyi doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time.
A wonderful flowing move by The Dons was finished by Neil Shipperley on 51 minutes but the visitors could not muster an equaliser.
The bottom two - Sheffield Wednesday and Grimsby Town - locked horns at Hillsborough but a dour tussle helped neither side as the deadlock could not be broken.
Burnley are aiming to finish the season with a flourish and coasted to three points at home to Gillingham, with Gareth Taylor and Drissa Diallo netting the goals.
Bradford City secured their First Division future as they battled to a win at home to losing FA Cup semi-finalists Watford.
Claus Jorgensen put The Bantams ahead on 13 minutes only for Heidar Helguson to poach an equaliser on 41 minutes.
The Bantams ensured the visitors' cup hangover continued as Andy Gray fired home from the penalty spot two minutes before the interval after Sean Dyche fouled Jorgensen.
Coventry's miserable run of form shows no signs of abating as they slipped up in the Midlands derby at Pride Park. Italian striker Fabrizio Ravanelli netted the only goal on 62 mminutes for Derby County.
The removal of Trevor Francis as Crystal Palace manager failed to have the desired effect as The Eagles drew 0-0 at home to Rotherham United.
