United only just missed out on promotion in the last campaign, losing to Wolves in the play-off final, but far from spending the summer cursing his luck, the Blades boss is already looking towards next season's aim of achieving Premiership status.
He told bladesworld.tv: "We will have a search at what there is but I'm looking to bring in between five and eight players.
"We haven't been far away this season so I don't want to chop the team completely.
"We are looking to bring in better players than what we are letting go."
United have offered new deals to Peter Ndlovu, Stuart McCall, Owen Morrison, Rob Kozluk and Marcel Cas and Warnock hopes they will put pen-to-paper on the new contracts soon.
A number of players have already been released from Bramall Lane and the former Notts County and Huddersfield boss admits he will have to use his wheeler-dealer skills to try and bring in the players he wants.
He added: "We have to work within our wage budget. There are a few players at the club who are under contract that I may part exchange or look to use to bring in new faces."
