The 19-year-old was watched by manager David Platt as Wimbledon lost 1-0 to Preston North End on Saturday, and his performance was good enough to earn him his first call-up to the Under-21 squad.
Reo-Coker has been a regular in the Under-19s and his inspirational performances for Wimbledon this season have caught Platt's eye, as the Under-21 coach seeks to rebuild for the future.
"Being picked for the U-21s is a massive stepping stone in my career," Reo-Coker told the Dons official website.
"I played for the U-19s last season and that was a big thing, but the only accolade bigger than the U-21s is the full England side, and that is everyone's dream.
"Jimmy Gilligan and Stuart Murdoch both told me that David Platt was watching against Preston and I got the call that I was in the squad yesterday," he continued.
"Of course I am delighted and hopefully I can impress the coaches if I play in the game."
One blow for Platt was the withdrawal of Sheffield United's Michael Tonge through injury.
Full squad: Ambrose, Ameobi (Newcastle), Ashton (Crewe), Bent (Ipswich), Burch (Tottenham), Carson (Leeds), Davenport (Coventry), Davies (Middlesbrough), Defoe (West Ham), Grant (Derby), Jagielka (Sheffield United), Jenas (Newcastle), Johnson (Chelsea), Ricketts (Tottenham), Ridgewell (Aston Villa), Reo-Coker (Wimbledon), Prutton (Southampton), Sidwell (Reading), Taylor (Portsmouth), Whittingham (Aston Villa), Wright-Phillips (Manchester City)
