The highly-rated defender has attracted the interest of a host of clubs after an impressive start to the season.
Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock is keen to bolster his defensive options and is a big fan of Collins.
"We're short of left-footed defenders and we've been looking at Danny for many months," said Warnock ."We hope something could happen in the next few days."
Deva Park boss Ian Rush confirmed Sheffield United had made a bid for Collins, but hopes to keep him at the club.
"I want Danny to stay and I want to build my team around Danny Collins. He´s been excellent for us," said Rush.
"From my point of view there's no way that Danny Collins is going to go. I think we need to build a team around him and see what happens.
"The bid came in for him during the last day or two from Sheffield United. I don´t know how much they offered but it wasn't enough!"
Sunderland are ready to rival United for Collins and they have declared their interest in the player with a firm offer.
Chester chief Stephen Vaughan revealed he is hoping to meet the defender to discuss his future.
"Bob Murray, the Sunderland chairman, contacted me and he has faxed an offer over to us. We have also received an inquiry from another Championship outfit," said Vaughan.
"I have promised to give Mr Murray a response, but as I've said many times before we would like Danny to stay with us, and we will hopefully sit down with the player in the next day or so."
